Name That Lie

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I will thank Him with my song.”

Psalm 28:7

As the title of the blog came across my email, I immediately thought of the old game show called “Name That Tune”. According to Wikipedia it was an American television game show that put two contestants against each other to test their knowledge of songs. The one to guess the song in the fewest notes was the winner. I remember playing it on several occasions in our family car. For us it was usually old hymns that we sang every Sunday.

Sometimes I get a tune in my head and it plays over and over. It is usually one little phrase, but no matter how short or long, it will not stop playing in my head. My husband is a whistler and he makes music all day long. Most often he doesn’t know he is whistling, but I do because it is the same tune over and over. Often times I will say, “Name that tune”. He truly is not even aware he is whistling, much less the name of the song.

The enemy loves to play his lying tunes all day long. Over and over he annoys and harasses us with lies. It can become so common that I don’t even recognize them as lies. This is not good, because then he has me trapped. The only buttons he has on his remote control are PLAY and REPEAT. Over and over he sings until we are just whistling along in agreement with him.

Last night at Touching Hearts our speaker, Jennifer Kenney, shared one of her paintings that illustrated how the enemy comes to us with lies and brick upon brick builds a wall cutting us off from any voice of truth.

She told us that it is very dangerous to come into agreement with the enemy, because when we do, he begins to isolate us from others that will speak truth. If I don’t recognize it and press STOP and DELETE immediately, I will be caught in a stronghold believing the lie. Unaware I can eventually be singing and whistling along with the enemy.

I think we need to revise the old 1950’s TV game show to “NAME THAT LIE”. I want to become sharp and intentional at naming it before he plays the entire song in my mind. The tune he often plays to me is “WHAT IF”. It has many verses, a chorus and even a bridge. I want to “name that lie” as soon as he plays one note of “what if”.

They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.” Psalm 112:7

The lying tune comes. Name it a lie. Stop it before it goes any further. It is important to know the only way to stop the lie is by replacing it with the word of God and a song of praise.

Declare His truth and watch the enemy flee!

I think we all need to learn a new song of truth.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I will thank Him with my song.”

Psalm 28:7

My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my being. Psalm 108:1
